Neptune Atlantic Introduces “The Barge”

Neptune Atlantic, in our constant pursuit to best serve our customers, has unveiled the addition of NEPTUNE ATLANTIC BARGE CO. Llc. We will no longer have to sub-contract the work to install our wood, concrete, and composite pilings with the new barge. Having our own barge completely benefits our customers through better costs and dramatically reduced completion times.

There is a huge variation in the quality of pile driving. Unfortunately, until a hurricane hits or brushes the keys, most customers, especially those with direct exposure on the bay or ocean will never know the difference between a proper installation and a poor one.” This is especially troubling because dock, seawall and boat lifts are not covered under most homeowners insurance policies in South Florida.

The 8 foot wide by 24 foot long push boat “The Trident”, has been installed with twin outboard motors for maneuverability in the shallow water conditions encountered so frequently in the Keys. It also made of steel, and a special epoxy used by the US Navy and Coast Guard has been applied inside and out to reduce corrosion.

Johnson explained the choice of a hydraulic marine crane: “When in the hands of a great operator like Buzz Weisman, a friction crane is just as precise as a Hydraulic Crane, but the hydraulic crane is more reliable, easier for precise positioning (required for great Lift and Dock work) and much easier to use.”

The Neptune team chose to purchase, refurbish and customize a hydraulic marine pivot crane for the barge. The 15 ton crane has been integrated into the design of the barge, making it the most stable, safest crane/barge combinations possible.

Mike O’Conner, a long-time team member and supervisor at Neptune Atlantic Boat Lifts, will commission and Captain the new Neptune 1 and Trident.

Mike is a 30 year Coast Guard veteran and holder of a 100 ton masters license. Mike intimately knows the waters and canals of the Keys from land and water, from Ocean Reef to Key West.
